Head Gardener at Allt y bela

This is an exceptional opportunity for a creative and motivated Head Gardener to join the team at Allt y bela in Monmouthshire, South Wales.

We are looking for someone with a demonstrable passion for plants to work alongside internationally recognised garden designer Arne Maynard and the wider estate team, to help care for and continually develop the gardens at Allt y bela, a private Grade II listed late medieval property in Monmouthshire, South Wales. We are looking for someone with a keen interest in the natural environment, preferably with experience of working on a conservation managed estate, supporting SSSI management and/or regenerative land management.

The gardens at Allt y bela cover approximately five acres and include the garden surrounding the main house, two rental cottage gardens, wildflower meadows, topiary, roses, cut flowers, perennial borders, fruit and vegetable areas, and riverside and woodland gardens. The gardens sit within a 165-acre SSSI estate, which is currently under conservation management and grazing. There is an opportunity for the gardener to become involved in the ongoing enhancement of the wider landscape.

We specialise in designing large country gardens in the UK and USA and are regularly asked by our clients to help source professional gardeners and head gardeners to manage their ongoing care. Our gardens require skilled gardeners with experience of the full range of garden jobs and in particular the confidence to clip topiary, prune fruiting and ornamental trees, maintain herbaceous borders, execute extensive spring bulb displays and manage productive kitchen gardens.

Head Gardener at a private estate in Jersey

This is an exceptional opportunity for a creative and motivated Head Gardener to come on board before the main phase of perennial planting is undertaken in Spring 2026. The 20-acre estate, including a restored Jersey Manor House, is being remodelled working closely with Arne Maynard Garden Design to create an exquisite 4-acre garden of immense horticultural distinction and beauty. The garden features a 4-acre space with diverse plantings, traditional materials, and new features such as a pond, grotto, Shell House & colombier. Its ornamental walled garden includes a productive area with a glasshouse for propagating cut flowers and potted plants. The landscape also boasts wildflower meadows, orchard, topiary, hedges, rhododendrons, and courtyard gardens.
